Day 1 - New tech = New blog

Technogizmos have dominated my day today. The advent of a new scribbling implement (snazzy cheap netbook) meant getting up at the ungodly hour of 7am on a Saturday anxiously awaiting the Parcelforce overlords.

Before the shiny bit of kit got here I spent the first two hours on my old semi-retired laptop impatiently refreshing the track and trace page waiting for it to tell me it had left the depot and was trundling its way to my door. I felt like a prisoner, pacing about, fearing going to the toilet in case the door went when I had my pants round my ankles, afraid to take a shower in case I had to run lathered and naked into the hallway to scrawl my name on the electric brick of acceptance (which always makes you look like you’re writing with the skill of a 5 year old with a dead arm).

About half an hour into the cruel delivery window I found myself constantly looking out of the balcony every time a truck passed by just in case the devious delivery man decided that looking up in my general direction was going to be the only confirmation he would accept for me being in. You see I’ve done this before and I should learn that being impatient only makes it worse but I’m also a complete geek and did I mention I was impatient?

After counting 2 hours I could have spent snoozing it finally arrived. A mad dash to the door and down the lift and the excessively big cardboard box was mine. A polite thank you to the Parcelforce guy (who was not in fact evil, devious or even slightly tricky in any way) and upstairs to geekville.

So here it is, a new machine for writing stuff like this that I can actually carry without breaking my shoulder. The thing is just another gadget adding to the growing pile of shiny black objects around my flat that demand constant plugging in to the national grid and I’ll keep fiddling with it until the novelty inevitably wears off.

I can’t help thinking I would have had much more sleep today if it wasn’t for this thing but then again none of you would have had to spend the last five minutes reading this without it. Hope it was worth it as I don’t do refunds.

Expect more of this when I next feel inspired.. look at that, first blog done!
